Introducing the Newly Designed American Eagle Coin

Making the right decision when it comes to investing in bullion can be nerve-wracking, especially with so many different coins to choose from. But one series is a particular favourite with gold, silver, and platinum coins investors. That is the American Eagle bullion coin series.

Straight from the United States Mint, The American Eagle series has been redesigned to commemorate the coin's 35th-anniversary.

The History Behind The American Eagle Series

The American Eagle coin series was introduced by the United States Mint in the mid-80s with precious metals demand soaring, particularly for gold and silver coins. As a result, a range of coins from 1 oz to ½ Oz, and even 1/10 oz were minted.

Since the 1990s and into the 2000s, the demand for these coins peaked again. During and after the recession of 2008, the American Eagle coin series remained in demand, particularly amongst buyers in North America.

The New American Eagle Series Coins

To commemorate the anniversary(35th) of the series, the US mint released the newly designed American Eagle Coins. The American Eagle Gold Reverse highlights a ‘vigilant eagle’ while the American Eagle Silver Reverse shows a ‘soaring eagle’ respectively. These new coins were minted for bullion investing, although collectable versions of the coins have also been minted.

First envisioned by Jennie Norris, the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist, the design of the new American Eagle series is highly detailed. The American bald eagle, which is commonly associated with the US, depicts the printed animal on a profile of the coin (gold and silver). An inscription surrounds the bird that reads: the United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and 50 Dollars and 1 OZ Fine Gold or Silver (in all capital letters).

Why Invest in the American Eagle Series?

First and foremost, gold, silver and platinum coins have historically been an excellent investment, as the metals have maintained purchasing power value against inflation of fiat currency. The value of gold has always shifted upwards during times of crisis. With the prices of gold hitting recent all-time highs, crossing the USD 2,000 mark, the American Gold series is a proven winner for an investment portfolio.

Furthermore, aside from gold being a safeguard against inflation, both silver and platinum provide numerous opportunities for retail and manufacturing industries. Their prices have also increased with increased industrial demand. Finally, American Eagle coins have some tax benefits, depending on the country of residence of their investor.

Conclusion

To buy gold, silver, or even platinum coins is always a worthwhile investment, whichever country you are from. The American Eagle series coins have been a stable and lucrative choice that has continued to appreciate over time.
